Evaluation Task 4: Preproduction

Before we could commence production, we had a lot of research to do. All of which is documented in the September - November blogs. Technology that we used was:

Internet
- To research similar artists through YouTube
- To order the necessary props
- To research costumes, band style
- To find a band name we decided to go on Google Translate and type in some stereotypical hippy words and see what they translated to in foreign languages. I was fond of using a Scandinavian term, but in the end we decided on 'Lanmou' which is the Haitian Creole word for Love.
- The internet was the most used tool in our research as it allowed us to find all the necessary information in addition to some video examples.

Blogger
- To record our creative progress
- Blogger has been a key tool throughout the process, as it means that we can access all of our work from any computer, and obviously is where all of this is being recorded.

Photoshop
- For drafting the cover art,
- Creating a consistent theme, to stick to throughout production.
- In photoshop, we used image layering and effects to create our cover art, and each of us did 1 or 2 drafts each that were eventually presented to the group. Collectively we then chose our favourite and themed the rest of the Digipack to match it.
- Using photoshop rather than another program allowed us to play around more extensively with the properties of each image, such as the opacity and colour.

Camera
- For making the Animatic, we took our storyboard and made a rough video cut, to get a feel for what the video might look like with the music.

Final Cut Pro
- For editing our animatic, and was good practice for us to get used to the editing process again after a long break. Utilising FCP allowed us to alter the animatic at any time, slotting in extra shots if needed. Also FCP allowed us to directly upload our animatics to YouTube after they were done.

Without all of the above technology, we would not have been able to have made our product as quickly as we did, or to the same quality. The pros of digital technology, and web based technology is that it can be altered at any time and improved on a whim. Also it allows us to make multiple copies of each stage, or in the case of FCP, make alternate sequences on a parallel timeline.
